I want to take this time to recognize the amazing staff and mentor I had the honor to work with for the past year.
First, I will tell you a little about my situation I was in the beginning of last year. I had separated from my kid’s dad and was looking to settle on my own with my two kids (5 and 1 year at that time). I moved in with my parents in a 2-bedroom apartment and slept in the living room where I set up my daughter’s crib along with a small bed and our clothes. I struggled a lot trying to find stability but as a single mom it is very difficult to get anywhere especially without a good paying job. I stayed there for about a month until my parent’s building caught on fire and most of our things were damaged leaving me at zero with me taking time off work to try to save some of my things. I hit a low point in my life where I had to borrow money to pay for my kids care, their food, buy some clothes etc. I was frustrated I saw no way out of the horrible situation I was in. so I went to the food stamps office where they offered help and gave me this booklet with other resources that I could use. That’s when I saw Community Outreach so I called and set up an appointment. From the first day, I went in there and talked to Brett and the other staff, I felt like I mattered and my situation wasn’t ignored. It was a huge relief to get help when I needed it the most. Then I was paired with this wonderful mentor, Regina, whom I still have contact with even though she moved from Sioux Falls. She was a like an angel sent to me to guide me and help me budget my money. I am forever grateful with Regina as she was with me through tears, disappointments, court issues with the custody battle I was having, car issues, and just overall, everything that went wrong she was there to give me words of encouragement. She would take time out of her day to accommodate my crazy schedule, she would even treat me, and the kids to food and on several occasions helped me get out of tight situations where I had no money to buy my kids anything after rent and bills. Through the Genesis program, I was able to get help with my rent for several months. I cannot stress enough how grateful I am to have met these wonderful people that I know God sent to me during the worst time of my life. I am a true believer and I believe that God works in mysterious ways and when we least expect it we are blessed.
Therefore, to conclude my testimony, I would like to say that if anyone is in need of help, to reach out to this great team of caring, wonderful people. They will lead you to success and make sure you are stable before letting you go. With them, I was able to purchase a new car under my name, find affordable daycare, pay all my bills on time, and treat my kids and myself. Because I stayed positive this whole time and prayed for a better future for my kids and I, God blessed me with a good man who I am now married to and we just bought our first home in April. I cannot complain about life because good things do come to those who wait. You have to suffer a little to live a happy life.
I hope Community Outreach gets recognized for their outstanding and superior attention they provide to those in need. God bless you all and thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.
